  • Full access to the industrial kitchen which has a large refrigerator which can store platters. There is also a large gas stove and three large sinks. There is no freezer or dishwasher.

  • Full use of the main floor. Lower level Hainley Room is available for an additional fee.

Yes. There is a projector system available for use which is connected via an HDMI cable. MAC devices may require an adapter. There is a 12ft. viewing screen as well. The projector does have a small speaker for audio. There are simple operating instructions located in a binder in the kitchen.

The Station does not have a PA system to amplify sound.

We offer the use of 10 white tablecloths for our rectangular tables and 10 tablecloths for our 48″ round tables. There is a $95 cleaning fee and advanced notice is required. Napkins are not available.

  • Nothing may be attached to any walls, fixtures, doors, windows, partitions, light fixtures, or any interior or exterior surfaces which leaves any marks, residue, holes or damage.  
  • Any tape must be non marking and wall safe. think Command Strips or something like that.
  • Confetti, glitter, potpourri, spray string (or their equivalent), sparklers, fireworks, sky lanterns or anything that has the potential to ignite are not permitted anywhere in or on SMILE Station property.
  • By order of the Fire Marshall, City of Portland, live candle flames are prohibited inside the church and within 100 feet of this historic building.  
  • Any use of these prohibited items will result in the minimum assessment of a $250.00 fee and may result in additional costs if repairs or cleaning incurred by Oaks Pioneer Church exceed this amount.
  • Outdoor decorations must not leave holes in the grounds larger than a dime-sized diameter and nothing may be attached to the building; following the same guidelines as indoor decorating.

There is a main front lawn/garden area with a couple trees as well as a side grassy area on the south side of the building. You are welcome to use both during fair weather conditions (not muddy or rainy), we just ask that you are considerate of our neighbors.

The main carpeted area is approximately 1300 sq. ft.

We accept personal check and credit card payment / Paypal via our online payment portal.

Prior to the event, the renter will be provided with an access code which will be active for the duration of their rental period.

 

No staff will be onsite during your rental however, you will be given and emergency number in the event the renter needs immediate assistance.

Rentals require a $350 refundable security deposit. This amount is refunded after each event provided that there is no damage or missing items, and that all cleaning requirements are met. Groups over 30 persons serving food and beverages will be charged a non-refundable cleaning fee of $150.

Beer and wine are allowed at SMILE Station. Hard alcohol can only be served/provided by a licensed OLCC bartender and proof of their retainment must be provided 14 days prior to the event. All rentals wishing to serve alcohol must provide an additional day-of event insurance policy. We have specific requirements for the policy and STRONGLY recommend using our provider, Event Helper for securing your insurance. 

  • SMILE requires that the Client provide a Certificate of Insurance naming Sellwood Moreland Improvement League as additional insured.
  • The limits on the certificate must be no less than $1,000,000.00. The insurance shall provide coverage for not less than $1,000,000 for personal injury to each person, $1,000,000 for each occurrence, and $1,000,000 for each occurrence involving property damage; or a single limit policy of not less than $1,000,000 covering all claims per occurrence.
  • The name and address on the certificate must read as: Sellwood Moreland Improvement League 8210 SE 13th Ave Portland OR 97202. 
  • The Certificate of Insurance and a copy of the Endorsement to the policy must be submitted to SMILE at least two weeks prior to the date of the Event.
  • We STRONGLY encourage renters to utilize TheEventHelper online event insurance. It is easy and affordable and they are set up specifically to meet our requirements. You can get the insurance or get a quote by clicking here or the link below. This event insurance is also readily available through most car and home insurance companies as well. PLEASE review your contract with the required details before securing your insurance through your own company.

Cancellations:

  • 100% of booking fees are refundable within 30 days of purchase. After 30 days, 50% of paid fees are nonrefundable.
  • If cancellation notice is given less than 90 days prior to the event, all rental fees are forfeited.
  • If reservation is part of an Oaks Pioneer Church package, all fees are nonrefundable.
  • SMILE reserves the right to cancel rentals due to conflicts or emergency conditions. In the event of a cancellation by SMILE not due to emergency conditions or natural phenomenon, all fees including any application, deposits and rental fees will be refunded. 

There are no catering restrictions for use of the kitchen. For recommendations, see our local resources page.

We have great Wifi for business meetings etc. The login and password are provided in advance of the rental period.

Yes. However ALL amplified sound must be eliminated by 10pm out of courtesy to our neighbors. This includes live music, DJs or canned. We DO NOT have a PA system available for use in the building.

Between the two small parking areas there is room for 4-6 vehicles. There is a good deal of available parking in the neighborhood around the property. Please be respectful and do not block sidewalks or driveways!
